Hi everyone, Trynda here.

Today, I’m bring you a BookBag video where I’ll be talking about Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, I started this book a few months back and I just haven’t had that much time to read over the summer but I finally got around finishing it and now, I’m gonna talk about it.

If you’re not too sure what Neverwhere is, it’s basically an urban fantasy set in London where Richard Mathew, a regular everyday man is kind of pulled into this underground London society that is based around magic and the feudal system.

I couldn’t really connect with Richard very much, I didn’t understand why he didn’t want to go back to a fiancée that didn’t treat him very well, and I could understand why he wanted to go home but it just felt like a lot of time he was blundering through when he was smarter than how he was acting. I really liked Door, I really wish that we could have seen more from her perspective and just see how she felt about the London Underground and i just wanted to learn more about her and her past and more about what she thought about the everyday life that she knew opposed to Richard who was thrown into something unusual.

All in all, I really like the book and I’m glad to have read it, I just wish that there was less of head hopping and the main character of Richard was a little bit more relatable in the sense that he was actually working to go home towards something that actually mattered and it would have made Richard seem a little more believable to me because it just didn’t make sense that he was going to return to someone who just didn’t deserve him in the first place.

Next on my to be read list is the H.P. Lovecraft compendium and I’m really looking forward to reading this because I’ve never actually read any of H.P. Lovecraft’s work so, I’m really excited to get into all the stories that people always talk about. I think that’s it for this week’s video so, I will talk to you guys next week. If you like this video make sure to leave a like and subscribe to my channel for more videos like it. Authortube Worldbuilding Tag

https://youtu.be/U2Xjv_JZuRA

Hi everyone, Trynda here.

Sorry this video is a little late this week, I was getting ready for a job interview on Friday and now that it’s Saturday, I’ve had the chance to record and you should be seeing this video as soon as it’s done.

This week, I’m doing an Authortube World building Tag that was started by Michael Thomas and I will link his channel down below with everyone else’s that I’ve tagged as well.

So, let’s get into the questions and I will let you know who I’ve tagged at the end of the video.

1. Name an author who is good at world building?

I really think that Rick Riordan, the author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, did a really good job of world building in his series. What with mixing in Greek mythology with the real world and making it flow very well together and I thought that he did a really good job on that series.

2. Name a detail or a thing in a book which functioned only to help the world building.

I think character development helps enormously in world building because it lets you see how characters and their settings and environments are interacting together and I think that is a more organic way of building in world building than just saying, “Here’s an info dump of everything you need to know of this world.”

3. Do you prefer well-described characters and an underdeveloped setting or vice versa?

I personally like an happening medium because I think it’s important to have well flushed out settings in environments as well as flushed out characters as well. I think the two go hand in hand and I think it’s just poor writing to leave out one and not the other because then you’re just making it lopsided and how people interact with what’s normal around them speaks volumes more.

4. How much world building is too much world building?

I think it’s too much world building when you’re spending pages describing just one thing or like a handful of things. You shouldn’t spend all your time focusing on certain aspects but you should weave it organically through the entire story and show how different characters and different settings are interacting with each other.

5. What book/series could benefit from more world building?

So, you’ll have to excuse my memory a little bit, I read this book a long time ago and I really only read the first book in the series but The Dark Angel book by Meredith and Pierce, really felt like it could have benefited from some more world building. In the story, it was a vampire that was evil and twisted against humanity, kidnaps this girl and tries to make her his wife and she kind of redeems him and melts lead off of his heart, it was a really interesting story but they were just kind of in the middle of nowhere in these mountains and you were kind of left wondering, well, where is this even taking place like how did this chic just go missing and no one even thought to look for her like it just felt like there should have been more there right? But maybe I’m just misremembering it but I really wanted to get back in that series and see if they had expanded on what was going on later on in the series.

6. Do you prefer the intricacies of a world to be presented early on or revealed throughout the book?

I’d rather see and author weave the details of their world through the entire book and the entire series because I feel like it is much more organic fit and you’re not forcing it on your readers so much like you have to know this information. It’s more like letting them discover this scene where their imagination takes it instead of forcing them to look in a certain direction.

7. Describe/draw your perfect world.

Well, my world is very much my world, the Elohim Universe, I love working in it and it’s a happy mesh between our world that we know and a spin on what gods and a celestial multidimensional beings are like. I’m okay with being a little bias because I love my world and I love writing in it and that’s why I keep writing in it.

So, that’s it for now guys. I am hopefully going to pronounce everyone’s names right but I’m going to be taking three people for this tag.

I will be tagging J.D. Archer, Alina Popescu and Camille Nicole. If you like this video and you want to see more like it, then make sure to leave a like and subscribe to my channel for more.

If want to let me know what you thought of the questions or what you want to answer to them, then leave them in the comments down below. I’m always posting world building and behind the scenes content along with short stories for my Patreons.

I think that’s everything guys so, I will talk to you guys later.

Manuscript Chat | The Elohim

https://youtu.be/-i6w2zz-tY0

Hi everyone.

Trynda here, bringing you another manuscript chat video. Today, I’m gonna be talking about the Elohim and the universe that they reside in.

First off, if you haven’t watched my other video, I will leave a link down below for you guys and I would recommend going to check that out first before checking this video because it will just give you and intro into the series and give you a jumping off point.

So lets get into it.

The Elohim are a race that I created within my universe that are basically the architects to life as we know it. The Elohim live in what they call a celestial plane and that is a little pocket inside the flow of time that they created themselves.

They also created what is known as the divisional plane and the mortal plane. Now the Divisional Plain is kind of like a Purgatory or just a no-mans-land for souls and celestial beings to transverse with each other.

And then we have the Mortal Plain which sounds pretty self explanatory and that’s kind of where we live.

The reason that these dimensions are set up the way they are is to reflect how a lot of mythologies look at how people interacted with the gods. It wasn’t very often that you saw humans interacting with gods on a face-to-face level. You often saw people interacting with the gods through a medium of some sort whether that be drugs or angels or messengers or even the gods themselves manifesting in a different form but you never saw people interacting with the god itself because they will basically burst into flames or an equivalent for that theology. So, I wanted to incorporate that in my world so it wouldn’t seem like humans and gods were having a direct conversation all the time because that’s not what it looked like in history.

What originally started this idea of the Elohim was this one passage from the book of Revelation in the King James Bible and it gave me the idea of what the Elohim would look like and that was with their bleach white skin, hair and eyes and their super tall features almost make them look very alien and non human like.

After I had the basic idea of how I wanted the Elohim to look, I knew that I had to make them a little bit down to earth so they wouldn’t be invincible and they could still be concrete in a certain way.

To make sure that the Elohim were not overpowered and instead a race you could associate that still had downfalls, I made sure to give them the inability to heal and fragile bodies along with a set of rules called The Bindings and this was in theory meant to make sure they could stay in check without essentially messing up the entire universe. These flaws of being unable to heal and having fragile bodies, forced the Elohim to be realistic about how they use their powers and needing help along the way and in turn they created what’s called the messengers.

The messengers are basically like bodyguards, assistants and companions. Basically, anything that the Elohim can’t do, they create a messenger for. It sounds a little bit odd putting it like that but often, it’s a mutual agreement between two corporal beings. If that makes sense.

So I think that’s it for now guys, if you like what you saw make sure to leave a like and subscribe to my channel for more videos like it. If you want to hear me talk about something specific, then leave a comment down below and I will talk about that next time. If you haven’t read the Revival series yet then I suggest checking out Revival Prologue, it’s available free at the link down below. You can also get Revival (Episode 3) now if you’re all caught up and Revival (Episode 4) is also available for preorder so you can check all those links in the description down below as well. I’m going to be putting my excerpt about the Elohim from my world bible up on my Patreon so, if you wanna know some specific details bout the Elohim, then I suggest heading over to my Patreon and seeing if that’s something that you can be interested in signing up for.

You can also sign up for my mailing list and get a free short story if you’re looking for something to read and that is also down in the description below and I think that’s it for now so, I’ll talk to you guys later.

https://youtu.be/x-gObNDq6ew

Hey everyone.

Trynda here, Today, I’m bringing you an update video from the Manitoba Legislative Building.

So, I found a nice little park off to the side here, I’ve never seen it before so, I figured I do a video here.

First up, I’m going to tell you about some videos that have gone up on my channel.

I didn’t actually get a video up last week, I was swollen and sore with a tooth infection so, I didn’t actually get a chance to shoot my video.

Before that, I had the Method to My Madness where I was talking about hashtags on social media.

At the beginning of the month, we had the Manuscript Chat video which was the first video in the series talking about my manuscripts that I’m working on and I will put a link down below with all these videos so you can go check them out.

You can expect to see a new book video coming up soon along with another Manuscript Chat video and those will be coming up in the next few weeks so, keep an eye out for that.

I’ve also been working on a short story for the Fall Writing Contest held by the right practice.

I’ve really been enjoying writing for the theme of Let’s Fall in Love so, you can expect to see that soon.

I’ll be posting a link to the Reader’s Choice Award.

There’s not too much going on with my Patreon recently unfortunately.

I’ve been a bit busy so, it’s fallen on the wayside.

There has been a single short story added but you can go over there and check that out to see if it’s something you’re interested in.

You can also get Revival (Episode 3) now and you can preorder Revival (Episode 4) And that will be coming out November 1st.

If you haven’t checked out my social media, make sure to check that out.

There’s always articles and other stuff that I find interesting going up on my feed.

You can stay up to date with me there or you can check out my mailing list and you can get a free short story as well.

So, I think that’s it for now guys and I will talk to you later.
